Charge Controllers

Charge Controllers

Charge controllers prevent batteries from overcharging by limiting the rate at which energy is added to a battery cell.  By stopping the electric current feeding a battery after it is fully charged, charge controllers work both to save energy and to preserve the overall lifespan of the battery.  Similarly, charge controllers function to prevent batteries from deep discharging by ceasing energy flow away from an empty battery cell.  Charge controllers - also known as solar controllers - prevent against overheating and other hazardous conditions while maximizing efficiency of a solar battery.

Who needs a Charge Controller?

Most solar systems will require the use of a charge controller.  A solar controller is necessary in any system that employs backup batteries.  By maximizing battery performance and minimizing energy waste, charge controllers will optimize the the efficiency of your solar system and earn you the greatest return on investment.  Some smaller scale PV systems (those which utilize panels of 5 watts or less) will not require the use of a charge controller.  Call Solar Systems USA for more information on whether or not you will need a solar controller for your solar energy project.
